Gaza: Greenpeace joins an international flotilla to break the blockade, departure scheduled for April 12, 2026

The NGO Greenpeace International announced on Monday April 6 that its emblematic ship, the Arctic Sunrise, will participate in the next Global Sumud Flotilla heading to Gaza. This initiative will bring together more than 70 boats and a thousand participants determined to challenge the blockade imposed on the Palestinian territory. The flotilla is due to leave Barcelona on April 12, with stops planned in Syracuse and Lerapetra, before heading to Gaza. A public mobilization is also planned the day before departure.
Greenpeace specifies that its ship will provide technical and operational support in order to secure the crossing in the Mediterranean, particularly during the last nautical miles towards the Gazan coasts. In a context of regional war and a worsening humanitarian crisis, the NGO denounces the inaction of governments in the face of violations of international law. She claims to be responding to a direct appeal from the population of Gaza and intends to demand humanitarian access “safe and unhindered”.
The previous flotilla, in September 2025, was intercepted at sea by Israeli forces, around 70 nautical miles from the coast, with arrests as a result. Despite these precedents, the organizers intend to renew the operation, which they present as an act of international solidarity and political pressure. With this participation, Greenpeace is part of an international civil mobilization aimed at breaking the siege of Gaza and warning about the humanitarian and environmental consequences of the conflict.
