Withdrawal of the Yadan law: victory claimed by the opposition

The Renaissance group withdrew from the agenda of the National Assembly the bill proposed by MP Caroline Yadan, which aimed to fight against certain forms of anti-Semitism. This decision comes after the government announced that it could take up the subject via a future bill, developed more broadly with the different political groups. The text, supported by the executive, however faced strong opposition, particularly on the left, but also criticism from academics and jurists. La France insoumise had planned to slow down its adoption by increasing parliamentary procedures, making its examination particularly tense.
On the side of opponents, this withdrawal is seen as a setback for its promoters. Jean-Luc Mélenchon reacted by welcoming a political victory : “Good riddance!” The genocide apologists have failed. Netanyahu’s friends are ridiculed. Bravo to the parliamentary resistance! » Despite this withdrawal, the government still plans to present a new text by the summer, the content of which remains to be specified and which should be the subject of transpartisan work in order to avoid the blockages encountered so far.
