A petition calling for the closure of CNews approaches 100,000 signatures

The petition entitled “Remove CNews from French broadcasting”, published on the National Assembly platform, gathers 91,615 signatures, according to the communicated count. She calls for the immediate withdrawal of the channel’s TNT convention as well as its closure. “CNews is not a news channel. It is a propaganda machine,” states the text, which denounces racist and discriminatory remarks, breaches of pluralism and sanctions deemed ineffective. The petition cites in particular comments targeting Muslims, foreigners and several personalities from immigrant backgrounds.
She also questions the effectiveness of the fines imposed on the chain, believing that they do not constitute a sufficient financial brake for its owner, Vincent Bolloré. “Each sanction is an entry ticket that he willingly pays,” she denounces, while worrying about the influence of CNews on the public debate in the run-up to the 2027 presidential election.
“A public frequency has to be earned,” insists the petition, which calls for intervention from the regulator. The threshold of 100,000 signatures would offer additional visibility on the National Assembly website, without automatically leading to debate or sanctions against the channel.
