Algeria: after 17 years of work, the East-West highway finally completed
In Algeria, the East-West highway is now aptly named, as it truly extends to the west of the country. A final section of about 80 kilometers, going to the border with Tunisia, was inaugurated on Saturday August 12 by the Prime Minister, Aïmene Benabderrahmane, according to the official APS agency. But unrolling this long ribbon of asphalt was far from easy. It took no less than 17 years to finalize the work entrusted in 2006 to two groups, one Chinese and the other Japanese. The initial deadline of 40 months was quickly exceeded.
