Algeria comes to the rescue of Libya devastated by deadly floods
Shaken by violent seismic tremors, disfigured by gigantic fires or submerged by devastating floods, such as Morocco and Libya which bear the scars of the Dantesque natural disasters which have just struck them, our world is more than ever sitting on a volcano… in full eruption.
Unbearable human tragedies keep coming, apocalyptic landscapes are visible to all, while international solidarity continues to mobilize its specialized rescue troops, charter planes, and stand ready to provide assistance to disaster-stricken areas, as well as their hard-hit populations.
It is driven by this beautiful surge of solidarity which strengthens with each new calamitous disaster, that Algeria, through the voice of its Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, hastened to respond to the distress call launched by the President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Yunus Al-Menfi, a few hours after the deadly passage of Storm Daniel.
Algeria, which it must be remembered that it waited in vain for the royal green light from Mohammed VI to rush to the bedside of its population of the High Atlas, so painfully tried, will fly to the rescue of heavily bereaved Libya (more than 2,300 people died in floods and more than 10,000 people are missing), with the same eagerness.
Minister Ahmed Attaf, responsible for announcing the decision of the President of the RepublicAbdelmadjid Tebbouneafter ensuring the President of the Libyan Presidential Council with the full support of Algeria, detailed his action plan yesterday: sending urgently important humanitarian aid, consisting of food products, medical equipment, clothing and tents, via an airlift of eight planes from the Air Force of the People’s National Army (ANP).
During his telephone exchange with Mohamed Yunus Al-Menfi, Ahmed Attaf renewed “ his sincere condolences on behalf of Algeria, people and government, following the devastating floods which hit the brother country, causing a large number of victims including dead, injured and missing”, while insisting on the fact that “Algeria shares with Libya its pain and sorrow following this terrible tragedy.”
The Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs also underlined “ Algeria’s full availability to support the brothers in Libya by all means to mitigate the consequences of this tragedy, affirming to the President of the Libyan Presidential Council that the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is closely following developments of this natural disaster and the tragedies it caused, by giving instructions to the competent Algerian authorities to immediately send the necessary aid to the affected regions », According to the official press release from the presidency.
Very touched, the President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Yunus Al-Menfi, expressed “ its deep thanks and gratitude to Algeria for this outpouring of solidarity, which is not strange on the part of Algeria and its leadership, which has always helped the Libyan people in all times and all circumstances, devoting thus the bonds of fraternity, cooperation and good neighborliness uniting the two countries and the two brotherly peopless“.
