Algeria rolls out the red carpet for its Olympic heroes: Imane Khelif, Keylia Nemour and Djamel Sedjati
Before celebrating them in style, Algeria on Monday gave a triumphant welcome to its three heroes of the Paris Olympic Games, rolling out the red carpet under their feet as they got off the plane, their arms laden with flowers, all in an outpouring of hugs.
With joy in their hearts and proud eyes, it is an understatement to say that the return to the glorious country of Imane Khelif, gold medalist in boxing, Keylia Nemour, gold medalist in gymnastics, and Djamel Sedjati, bronze medalist in athletics, was eagerly awaited by all, their loved ones and the authorities alike.
Algeria, which can boast all the more since it ranked 39th in the 2024 Olympics (its best result since Atlanta in 1996), was indeed eager to honor its three great champions, to celebrate them, to compliment them, at the height of their exploits… Exploits of magnitude, so much was the terrain of the Paris Olympics mined.
It was the Minister of Youth and Sports, Abderrahmane Hammad, who was tasked with opening his arms wide to them, while covering them with praise for ” These medals are not the result of chance “, while greatly deploring ” the pressures our athletes have been under during these Olympic Games “.

” I am very proud to have offered this gold medal to Algeria. ” exclaimed the talented Keylia Nemour, 17. In a statement reported by National Television, the young gymnast wanted to sincerely thank the Algerians for their support ” for two and a half years. It really warms my heart and boosts me every time “.
Targeted by a vile global slander campaign, from which she emerged doubly victorious, Algerian boxing icon Imane Khelif reiterated her deep gratitude to the Algerians for having united behind her. For my part, I have realized a dream that I have been waiting for for eight years. I thank God for having achieved my goal with (Kaylia) Nemour and (Djamel) Sedjati ” she stressed, adding: ” All Algerian athletes gave their best to honor the country and we offered the most precious medals to Algeria »
For his part, Djamel Sedjati did not hide his emotion, evoking ” historic moments alongside the other athletes participating in the Olympic Games. We are proud of what we accomplished in Paris “.
A ceremony was then organized at the Salon d’Honneur of Algiers airport, in the presence of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Abderrahmane Hammad. We thank the supervisors and coaches of our athletes. These results are the fruit of the attention that the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has given to these games and to our athletes. “.
