Anti-Islamic demonstration by Jade Sandberg in Linköping under heavy surveillance

On October 26, 2024, Jade Sandberg, a controversial figure in anti-Islam circles in Sweden nicknamed the “Lady of the Cross”, led a demonstration in Stora Torget, Linköping, denouncing what she calls the “Islamization” of Europe. The event attracted several participants who shared his opposition to Islam, as well as counter-protesters who came to oppose his message. The Swedish police were present in large numbers to ensure security and prevent excesses.

Jade Sandberg, who presents herself as a priest, exorcist, affiliated with the Alliance Against Islamization (ACA), recently sparked controversy by burning a copy of the Koran in Stockholm, an act which she justifies by the freedom of expression

Jade Sandberg’s actions have sparked strong criticism in Sweden, where the use of freedom of expression for acts perceived as offensive divides opinion. The authorities are thus faced with a delicate dilemma: maintaining public order while protecting individual rights. This demonstration, held under police protection, fuels the national debate on the limits of freedom of expression and respect for religious beliefs in a context of tense identities.
