Asmaa Abou Tir, the seamstress from Gaza who beautifully defies her disability and Israeli oppression
It is a beautiful portrait of a Palestinian woman who is revealed in front of the camera lens of “Gaza, Life”, the citizens’ initiative spearheaded by academic Ziad Medoukh, in the guise of a courageous seamstress whom the pangs of Israeli colonization have not spared.
South of the martyred enclave of Gaza, in the heart of the village Abassan, located near Khan-Younis, behind her sewing machine where she meticulously makes made-to-measure clothes, Asmaa Abou Tir commands everyone’s admiration. (video below)
Admirable in her willpower, patience and dignity, this courageous mother of three children, who not only lost her husband but also suffers from a serious handicap, draws from her the strength to overcome, even to transcend the terrible ordeals that punctuate her existence.
Magnificently defying her infirmity and the cruelty of the blockade inflicted by the Israeli apartheid state, Asmaa Abou Tir resists oppression, equipped with the only weapons she wields with dexterity: her needles, her threads, her scissors and fabrics. which she happily assembles.
In her small sewing workshop where she gives free rein to her creativity, this remarkable Palestinian woman gets down to work every day, invincible hope anchored in her body.
