Belgium: Two arrested Israeli soldiers, suspected of war crimes in Gaza

It is a first in Europe and a strong gesture in favor of international justice. Two Israeli soldiers suspected of war crimes in Gaza were arrested and then questioned by the Belgian federal police, following a complaint filed by the Hind Rajab Foundation and the GLAN legal network (Global Legal Action Network).

The arrests took place during the Tomorrowland festival, in Boom, in a climate of palpable tension. Once in police custody, the two men were heard before being released. The federal prosecutor’s office confirmed the opening of a criminal investigation. The Hind Rajab Foundation, created in memory of the Palestinian little girl killed in Gaza, campaigned for justice and the responsibility of war crimes. GLAN, a network of lawyers specializing in human rights, acts internationally against the impunity of serious crimes.

This gesture marks a turning point. While many states are looking at, Belgium affirms its competence in matters of international justice and takes the accusations brought seriously. It is a clear signal: faced with credible evidence of international crimes, the law must apply – without political calculations. If the path to justice is still long, this arrest opens a breach in impunity. For the first time on European soil, Israeli suspects linked to the war in Gaza were subject to legal proceedings. The Hind Rajab Foundation and Glan salute this advance with determination. They call on the Belgian authorities to go to the end of the investigation, without pressure or compromise. Because justice cannot stop there.
