Canada: The Muslim population has tripled in twenty years
A new study from Statistics Canada reveals the significant evolution of the country’s religious mosaic. Between 2001 and 2021, the Muslim community experienced a very strong expansion, going from 579,000 to 1.8 million faithful, reflecting the dynamic of Canadian openness.
This growth brings the proportion of Muslims in the total population to 4.9%, compared to 2% two decades earlier. The main urban centers – Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver – concentrate most of this presence.
Demographic data paints a portrait of a young population, with an average age of 33.7 years, significantly lower than the national average of 41.9 years. The educational profile of Canadian Muslims also stands out, with 40.5% of them having a university degree.
The socio-economic analysis highlights successful professional integration, particularly in the health, education and new technologies sectors. Muslim entrepreneurship is also recording constant progress.
This dynamic illustrates the profound transformation of Canada, which has just crossed the milestone of 40 million inhabitants, nearly 25% of whom were born abroad, a record among the G7 countries. These transformations demonstrate the evolution of the Canadian multicultural model and its capacity to integrate confessional diversity.
