Ceasefire in Gaza: a fragile hope after

After months of incessant bombing and massive destruction that decimated entire families, a ceasefire agreement was finally reached between Israel and Hamas. The result of long negotiations led by Qatar, Egypt, the United States and Turkey, this agreement marks the “first phase” of a plan aimed at putting an end to the deadliest offensive that Gaza has seen in decades. The agreement provides for the upcoming release of hostages held in Gaza, a partial withdrawal of Israeli forces from certain areas, as well as a humanitarian truce supposed to allow the entry of aid and relieve a population on the verge of collapse.
Explosion of joy in Gaza after ceasefire announcement
In the streets of Gaza, the news of the ceasefire caused an explosion of joy. Despite hunger, fatigue and pain, thousands of Gazans came out to celebrate this long-awaited respite, waving Palestinian flags and embracing each other in the rubble. For a people bruised by two years of genocide, it is a breath of life, a parenthesis of hope in the midst of the ruins. In Gaza, joy does not make us forget the reality of the genocide: neighborhoods razed, entire families disappeared, lives to be rebuilt. But Gazans remain standing. Their courage, dignity and solidarity command respect from a world that is too often silent. They remind us that justice and human rights are not privileges, but universal requirements. Their survival, their resistance and their humanity are today a call to the conscience of the world.
