Composer Hans Zimmer, Oscar winner for “The Lion King” and “Dune”, expected to reinvent the Saudi Saudi hymn

The famous German composer Hans Zimmer, anicarized for his film music, could soon put his talent at the service of Saudi Arabia. During the Joy Awards in Riyadh, he met Turki Alalsheikh, Minister of Entertainment, to discuss several major projects.

Among the collaborations envisaged is the soundtrack of a film on the historic battle of Yarmouk (636), which marked the victory of the Muslim forces over the Byzantine Empire. The composer of “Dune” and “The Dark Knight” could also re -orchestrate the Saudi national anthem and participate in a musical project entitled “Arabia”.

The choice of Zimmer, whose reputation is well established in Hollywood with successes such as “the Lion King” or the “Batman” trilogy, testifies to the excessive ambition of the Saudi authorities. This potential collaboration would mark a significant turning point in the cultural strategy of the kingdom, which seeks to associate with the biggest names in the world entertainment industry.

“We have discussed many future projects and established their main lines,” said Alalsheikh on X (ex-Twitter), adding that Zimmer will give a concert on January 24 in Riyadh, as part of the capital’s cultural season.

This diplomatic operation is an integral part of the Vision 2030 program, which aims to diversify the Saudi economy beyond oil. However, this cultural initiative is criticized by human rights organizations, who see it as an attempt to restore the international image of the kingdom, accused of violations of fundamental rights.
