Doubts Regarding Ghusl

February 2, 2005

Question

Asslamu’alaikum

I have doubts regarding my recent ghusl. after ghusl and thereafter performed “Isya prayers, i realised a speck of dirt underneath one of my fingernails. I’m not sure if I have to redo my ghusl, will performing woodoo’ sufficient? Is my “Isya prayer void? thank you.

Answer

I neither think that you have to do your Ghusl again nor that you have to do your wudhu again. You can merely clean the dirt of your nail by washing your hands with water and that would be enough. I am not aware of any evidence from the Shari’ah which would suggest that a person’s prayer is invalidated merely on the grounds that he unintentionally missed a spot while cleansing himself.

I hope this helps,

Allah (swt) knows best,

Hischam Khan
