Eminent members of the main British Jewish organ denounces one of the most extremist Israeli government in history

A group of members of BOARD OF DEPUTIESthe flagship institution representing the British Jewish community, has published an open letter in the Financial Times To express his deep discomfort in the face of the continuation of the war in Gaza. A rare and significant gesture that marks a break with the traditional support of this organization towards the Israeli government.

In this text, signed by 36 members-or about an eighth of the assembly-the authors claim that they can no longer “look away or remain silent” in the face of what they consider a moral tear: “The soul of Israel is being torn off”, they write. They point to the resumption of hostilities after a truce, the worsening of the humanitarian situation and the lack of progress for the release of the hostages retained in Gaza.

The letter also accuses the current Israeli government, described as one of the most extremists in the history of the country, to encourage violence in the West Bank, to suffocate the Palestinian economy and to multiply illegal locations. Philip Goldenberg, lawyer and signatory of the text, told the BBC that the Israeli government “follows the Trump manual” by demonizing any opposition. For him, current actions in Gaza go against the ethical principles of Judaism, and jeopardize the Zionist project itself.
