Equality of Human Beings

July 13, 2005

Question

First of all I want to congratulate you on producing an understandable and logical resource about Islam. I also want to thank you as your work has helped me alot in my belief.

My question is are the Sayyads, the decebdants of Prophet (PBUH), superior to rest of human beings? It is generally believed that Sayyads are superior and they posess some kind of supernatural help in their routine lifes. Best regards

Answer

We thank you for your kind words and hope to always explain Islam in the most correct manner we possibly can.

No man or woman is superior to another except through piety. No one knows this piety except for the Almighty. Neither the descendants of the Prophet nor any person can claim any exalted position. Everyone is a human being with the capabilities that God gave them. Hence, any claims of supernatural powers or revering another person as having such are not in congruence with Islam. Nothing states this more clearly then God’s very words:

O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise each other). Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things). – Al Hujurat 49:13

I hope I have clarified the issue.

God knows best.
