During the extraordinary meeting held in Jeddah this Sunday, July 2, the 57 Member States of the OIC, through the voice of their Sgeneral secretary Hissein Brahim Taha, have, once again, virulently condemned a “despicable act”. Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco immediately recalled their respective ambassadors, in their strongest protest.
Revolted, Hissein Brahim Taha insisted on ” the urgent need to send a clear message to the world that acts of desecration of the Quran are not mere incidents of ordinary Islamophobia »while asking Member States to ” take unified measures to prevent the repetition of desecrations of copies of the Holy Book”.
“We must send constant reminders to the international community of the urgent application of international law, which clearly prohibits any advocacy of religious hatred », he hammered.
A few hours after the resounding exhortation of the OCI to act and take action against the burnings of another age, eminently sacrilegious, Sweden seems to no longer take refuge behind the screen of freedom of expression. Finally, she unequivocally denounced a “Islamophobic act”.
Indeed, the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately split a press release in which it is clearly stipulated, black on white: “ The Swedish government fully understands that Islamophobic behavior in gatherings can hurt Muslims. We strongly denounce such behavior. Such Islamophobic acts do not reflect the vision of the Swedish government “.
Will the fine words of the Swedish authorities result in strong and dissuasive criminal sanctions? After having initially authorized the burning of the Koran, in the name of the sacrosanct freedom of expression, the police Sweden has charged Salwan Momika with inciting hatred against an ethnic or national group.
