Flotilla for Gaza: Israel intercepts humanitarian ships

The Israeli navy intercepted several boats from the Global Sumud Flotilla, a civil party from Spain on Wednesday evening to send aid to Gaza. Passengers, from more than 40 countries, including Greta Thunberg, Mandla Mandela or MEP Rima Hassan, were arrested and transferred to Israel. The organizers denounce acts of piracy and intimidation: surrounded ships, blurred communications, violent approaches. This operation is part of the Israeli blockade strategy, largely deemed illegal and inhuman, aimed at preventing any humanitarian aid from reaching a besieged population.

The arrangement immediately sparked manifestations of solidarity in Italy, Greece, Turkey, Tunisia, France and Spain, where rallies denounced “an illegal attack on disarmed civilians”. Despite these interceptions, around thirty boats continue to go to Gaza. The determination of activists comes up against the will of Israel to impose by force a maritime seat contrary to international law and the most basic humanitarian principles.
