Gaza: Indonesia is launching an ambitious reconstruction plan for 100 mosques
In a strong gesture of interreligious solidarity, Indonesia undertakes to rebuild the cult heritage of Gaza with an ambitious project of 100 new mosques, while the Palestinian territory faces unprecedented destruction.
This major initiative, carried by the Indonesian Council of Mosques, comes when the situation on site remains critical: more than a thousand places of worship have been destroyed in Gaza in the last 18 months, according to Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, former vice -I Indonesian and current president of the Council.
“It is a humanitarian and spiritual emergency, particularly as Ramadan approaches”, he underlines. The project, which will start with the construction of ten semi-permanent mosques, will be based on the generosity of Indonesian faithful, called to contribute up to 5 to 10% of their financial capacities via Zakat and voluntary donations.
Indonesia, the largest Muslim country in the world with nearly 230 million faithful, thus confirms its historical commitment to the Palestinian cause. The specific construction methods are being finalized with the local authorities of Gaza. This action meets the urgent needs of a devastated territory, where the mass destruction of homes and places of worship continues to deeply affect the daily life of the population.
