Gaza: nearly 500 truce violations by Israel in 44 days, hundreds dead

The Gaza government media office says Israel has violated the truce that came into force on October 10 497 times, causing the deaths of 342 civilians, including many children, women and the elderly. On Saturday alone, the authority recorded 27 new violations, leaving 24 dead and 87 injured. It denounces “serious and systematic violations” of the ceasefire and holds Israel “fully responsible” for their humanitarian and security consequences. Furthermore, the entry of aid and medical equipment remains severely hampered despite the truce commitments.
In Gaza City, Al Jazeera correspondent Tareq Abu Azzoum reports that the truce “exists only in name”. According to him, Israeli forces continued to carry out airstrikes despite the announced pause, shattering any sense of security for residents. These attacks reinforce the idea that the agreement is being treated as a simple military repositioning rather than a real commitment. Local authorities say dozens of families in northern Gaza remain “under siege” as the Israeli army advances deeper into the enclave, in violation of the terms of the truce.
According to the agreement, the “yellow line” was to mark a repositioning zone set when the truce came into force. However, the Gazan authorities accuse Israel of having advanced beyond this limit, unilaterally modifying the parameters of the ceasefire. Gaza’s forensic services also report a serious lack of means to identify the 330 bodies returned by Israel, some of which bear traces of torture or execution. Only 90 have been identified so far.
