Halal & Haram Foods in the United States

February 1, 2005

Question

Dear Brother many people asked you the same question which I gonna ask now.I live in america and here the chicken and the mutton is of zibha means they just cut the heads once and thts all no takbeer and no ALLAHUAKBER which offcorse they cant coz they are non-muslims so can we eat the meat of chicken and mutton if we dont find any muslim slaughter man(kasii) and can we eat the meat which is without pork and only chicken and mutton which is available in supermarkets here in america knowing tht it is without takbeer ?and without takbeer some people say its haram?

Answer

According to the Shari`ah, a Muslim can only eat of that meat, which has been slaughtered in the name of the one God. Meat that is not slaughtered in the name of the one God is prohibited for Muslims. If you cannot find chicken, mutton or beef that is not slaughtered in the name of the one God, then you must avoid eating it. You may however eat fish. While living in America, you may eat of food that is ‘kosher’ (according to the classical sense), i.e., Halal under the Jewish law.

I hope this helps.
