Imam Al-Husainy removed from Trump inauguration program after revelations about his support for Hezbollah
Imam Husham Al-Husainy, director of the Karbalaa Islamic Center in Dearborn (Michigan), initially scheduled for a blessing during Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony, ultimately did not participate in the event. This spectacular turnaround comes after the publication of a damning report from the Middle East Forum (MEF), an influential American think tank specializing in Middle Eastern issues.
Declared support for Trump during his campaign and welcoming his “desire to bring peace to the region”, Al-Husainy saw his participation compromised after the revelations about his controversial positions. The MEF investigation, led by Sam Westrop, director of their Islamist Watch project, highlighted its support for Hezbollah and the Iranian regime.
These revelations, widely reported by national and international media, triggered a wave of protests among Trump supporters. The imam’s name, which appeared in a preliminary version of the program, was removed from the final version. This controversy comes as Trump seeks to consolidate his electoral base in Michigan, a key state where the Arab-Muslim community represents a significant electoral weight.
