Imams who supported Trump call him to demand a ceasefire in Gaza
In an open emotion letter, American imams having previously supported Donald Trump exhorted him today to position himself clearly on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. This “coalition of imams for supporting Trump”, trained in 2023 to support his candidacy, now claims an immediate truce to protect Palestinian civilians.
Combining religious references and American values, the signatories recall their attachment to the principles of human dignity while recognizing their past convergences with the president on family and societal issues. They also underline his efforts in favor of peace in Ukraine as proof of his ability to act to appease conflicts.
Through Koranic quotes, imams unambiguously condemn all violence and denounce the situation in Gaza as an “unprecedented humanitarian disaster” requiring an urgent moral response. “Our support was motivated by your promises of peace, not out of personal interest,” they say, notably evoking Imam Bilal al-Zuhairi who spoke during a campaign meeting in 2023.
The signatories insist on the universal character of their appeal: “This requirement comes not only from Muslims, but millions of Americans from all faiths who reject war”. A deliberately bipartisan message addressed to a president often perceived as divisive. The letter concludes with a poignant recall of Trump’s own declaration aspiring to be recognized as “a man of peace”. The imams urinate him to concretize this ambition: “God is witness. History will judge. The world observes.” An ultimate call for moral principles to prevail over political calculations.
