In Leeds, a mosque and solidarity associations united to support the homeless in the middle of winter

HAS Leedsa large city in the north of England, several local associations mobilized just after Christmas to help homeless people, at one of the most difficult times of the year. There Hand on Heart Charitable Trust And Hidden Homeless Leeds carried out this action alongside volunteers from the mosque Baab-ul-Ilmduring a marauding organized on December 27. Winter clothes, hygiene products and hot meals prepared by mosque worshipers were distributed to the most vulnerable people. Volunteers emphasize the importance of providing much more than material help: presence, listening and respect for human dignity, while precariousness does not stop during the holidays.
In a city marked by strong social inequalities, this initiative recalls the concrete role that mosques and local associations play in local solidarity. By also addressing situations of “hidden homelessness”, often ignored by public policies, this mobilization shows how civic and spiritual commitment can respond, here and now, to human emergencies too often relegated to the background.
