Islamic Relief: an active intervention with the victims of Dana in Valencia
In Paiporta, images of volunteers from the NGO Islamic Relief, muddy and engaged in cleaning the San Jorge Mártir church after the passage of storm DANA, captivated social networks. These volunteers, alongside Catholic and non-believing residents, work tirelessly to restore the place of worship, which has become a symbol of interreligious solidarity in the Valencia region.
Islamic Relief’s action is part of well-established solidarity logistics, starting from collection points such as the Alcorcón mosque and the Islamic Cultural Center of Leganés, where foodstuffs and basic necessities are sent to Valencia. . Present in Spain for eleven years, this NGO acts according to a principle of humanity and non-discrimination, regardless of the origin, beliefs or gender of the beneficiaries.
In a spirit of mutual aid, the team of volunteers, from Madrid, Valencia and Catalonia, intervenes with disaster victims and provides tangible support, from cleaning to the distribution of essential goods, particularly for those with special diets. “We do not discriminate between people, we meet the needs of all”explains a manager of the organization.
For volunteers like Hassna, aged 24, this experience was marked by emotionally charged exchanges, in front of a grateful community, and by the feeling of “breaking barriers”. The NGO’s mobilization continues with the arrival of new convoys from Madrid and Barcelona, testifying to solidarity without borders in a Spain marked by the destructive effects of DANA.
