“Israel does not seek to neutralize Hezbollah but to destabilize Lebanon,” denounces the Lebanese ambassador in Paris
The Lebanese Ambassador to France, Rabih Chaerstrongly denounced on France Info the scale of Israeli bombings in Lebanon, believing that they were less aimed at Hezbollah than at the stability of the Lebanese state. “I’m totally upset, really worried about Lebanon. I see that these are not strikes to really neutralize Hezbollah. In fact, it is to really destabilize Lebanon”he said.
Asked about calls to evacuate certain areas presented by Israel as strongholds of the Shiite movement, the diplomat disputed this justification. “When we evacuate an entire city like Nantes or Montpellier to bomb a few Hezbollah strongholds, it’s not really a fight against Hezbollah. It is a fight against the Lebanese and especially against the Lebanese State”he said. According to him, these massive strikes are “counterproductive” while the Lebanese authorities have distanced themselves from the armed movement. The ambassador recalled that the Lebanese president, Joseph Aounhad recently denounced Hezbollah attacks and reaffirmed that its armed wing was illegal.

“Despite this, Israel is only attacking Lebanon in a disproportionate and unjustified manner”concluded Rabih Chaer.
Editor’s note: Beyond the diplomatic reaction, these declarations are part of a context of growing international criticism against Israel. The Hebrew State is regularly accused by numerous NGOs, jurists and international organizations of violating international law, particularly in Gaza, where it faces accusations of genocide before the International Court of Justice. Its settlement policy in the occupied Palestinian territories, deemed illegal by a large part of the international community, also fuels accusations of territorial expansionism.
For many analysts, the most striking element remains the impunity that Israel enjoys on the international scene. Despite repeated condemnations, UN resolutions and procedures initiated before international courts, the Hebrew State continues its military operations and its colonization policy without any real major political or economic sanction. This lack of consequences nourishes the idea of a State capable of imposing its military power in defiance of international law, leaving civilian populations – in Gaza as in Lebanon – to pay the heaviest price for a conflict which seems to be spreading and taking root.
