Israel strikes Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar denounces a “loose” attack

Tuesday, September 9, several explosions shook the Qatari capital, Doha. The Israeli army confirmed that it had led “targeted” strikes against senior Hamas officials. Qatar accuses Israel of having targeted residential buildings housing members of the Palestinian Movement Political Bureau and condemned an “loose” attack in an official statement. Doha, who has played a central mediator role for months in cease-fire negotiations in Gaza, believes that this climbing seriously compromises the current discussions.

For its part, the Israeli army claims to have struck leaders “directly responsible” for the October 7 attacks and the current war against Israel. “Most Hamas leaders are abroad, and we will also find them,” said the Israeli chief of staff at the end of August, General Eyal Zamir. The Israeli Minister of Finance, Bezalel Smotrich, praised the operation on X, evoking a “just decision” and a “perfect execution” on the part of the army and the security services. These strikes arise then that, according to a source from Hamas, a delegation of negotiators was in Doha to examine a new proposal to cease-fire in Gaza.

By bombing Doha, Israel is crossed a new red line. It is no longer just a genocidal war waged against Gaza, but an assumed aggression against the sovereignty of a third state, mediator recognized by the international community. The choice to strike at the heart of the Qatari capital, while discussions on a cease-fire were underway, translates a deliberate desire to sabotage any perspective of peace and to make military logic prevail over diplomacy.

This act is part of the continuity of a colonialist project which denies not only the right of the Palestinian people to existence, but which now allows itself to export this war beyond borders. Israel behaves as a colonial power beyond all control, convinced of its impunity and determined to impose its domination by terror and targeted assassinations, even in foreign territory. It is not only a contempt for international law, but the raw expression of a racist and genocidal ideology. This structural racism, coupled with an extermination policy, makes Israel more dangerous than ever for global stability.

More than a military operation, it is an icing message sent to all mediators, to all states that try to slow down the hellish cycle of this genocide: no country is safe. By allowing himself to strike where he wants, when he wants, the Israeli government intends to impose terror as a method of government. It is a colonial and exterminating logic, which causes not only the threat of a regional conflagration, but also that of a global blast.
