Morocco makes history by beating Argentina to win the U20 World Cup

Historic feat in Santiago, Chile: Morocco won the Under-20 World Cup on Sunday evening by beating Argentina 2-0. This is the very first world title, all categories combined, for Moroccan football. Yassir Zabiri, young striker playing for FC Famalicão (Portugal), scored twice in the first half, offering a decisive lead that the Atlas Lions never relinquished.
Morocco, author of a remarkable run after eliminating South Korea, the United States and France, thus becomes the first African nation to win the U20 World Cup since Ghana in 2009. For its part, Argentina, six-time world champion in this category, suffered its first defeat of the tournament, deprived of several executives retained by their European clubs.
Beyond the trophy, this victory illustrates a real evolution of African football. It rewards years of investment in training in Morocco, embodied by the Mohammed VI Academy, which has become a model on the continent. Above all, it confirms the emergence of a new Moroccan generation, confident, ambitious and now capable of competing with the great nations of world football.
