Palestine in the spotlight in Spain: its first ambassador presents his credentials to King Felipe VI

If, under the gilded walls of the French Republic, it is the warm embraces between Macron and Netanyahu that make the flashbulbs crackle, punctuated by the “Dear Bibi” that the tenant of the Elysée has never been stingy with, in the Kingdom of Spain, the lenses have recently focused on a completely different scene.

In the sumptuous setting of the Royal Palace of Madrid, it was indeed the solemn ceremony of presentation of the letters of credence to the King of Spain, Felipe VI, which attracted all the spotlights, and for good reason! It allowed Husni Abdel Wahed, the first Palestinian ambassador appointed to the capital of Madrid, to make a historic entrance into the prestigious enclosure of the Spanish monarchy.

In contrast to the cruel lack of political courage of France, the country of human rights under influence, which has still not officially recognized the State of Palestine, Spain, like Norway and Ireland, emerged strengthened by having taken the decision to do so, on May 28.

Macron, the first president disowned at the ballot box to shamelessly flout their verdict, doubtless feared the fury that such a diplomatic thunderbolt would inevitably provoke in Tel Aviv… A pusillanimity that Spain, Norway and Ireland superbly ignored, convinced of the merits of their voluntary approach, with its strong symbolic charge, to “ achieve peace ” and encourage close neighbors to follow suit.

Including these three European countries, The State of Palestine is now recognized by 146 countries of the 193 UN member states, according to the Palestinian Authority.
