Regarding ‘Illiyyeen’ – Al-Mutaffifeen 83: 18

July 14, 2002 by Admin

Question

Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin. And what will make you know what the highest Iliyin is? It is a written book, Those who are drawn near (to Allah) shall witness it. Most surely the righteous shall be in bliss. (83: 18 – 22)

I believe an Illiyyeen to be a “numerically structured book”

Can I have your views please?

Answer

The Qur’an has only informed us that the records of the rejecters and the sinners are maintained in a ‘register’1 called ‘Sijjeen’ while the records of the pious are maintained in a ‘register’ called ‘Illiyyeen’. The details of these ‘registers’ and the records entailed in them is not given in these verses.

In view of this fact, I do not find myself in a position to give any details relating to the two ‘registers’.

I hope this helps.

  1. It should be kept in mind that many of the facts relating to hereafter have been given in the Qur’an by comparing them to things which man is generally exposed to during the life of this world. The details or even the real nature of these things cannot be known, during the life of this world. [↩]
