Rules Regarding the ‘Iddah (Waiting Period) for Women Due to Divorce

March 28, 2011

Question

Salaam

Can you please explain rules regarding iddah for a working woman due to Talaaq

Also she and 2 other sisters are doing voluntory work twice a month at a muslim home for aged where they mostly work with the aged females

Will she be allowed to do this or does that fall under socializing?

Shukran

Answer

The rules regarding the ‘Iddah for working women is no different than for those of a homemaker. Please refer to one of our previous responses Regarding the Waiting Period After Divorce. As for the voluntary work, that too is permissible. In fact, we commend her for her charitable time and effort and pray that God showers His blessings upon her.

There is no such rule of not “socializing” in regards to the ‘Iddah in Islam.

I hope this helps.

God knows best.
