Saudi Arabia: more than 200,000 iftar meals distributed every day at the Great Mosque of Mecca
While the month of Ramadan is touching on its last phase, the general authority in charge of the great mosque and the prophet mosque intensifies its efforts to welcome the faithful. Each day, more than 200,000 IFTAR meals are distributed to the Great Mosque in Mecca, in collaboration with several charities.
To ensure this massive distribution, more than 3,000 employees and 1,000 volunteers coordinate the establishment of 3,200 IFTAR layers, extending to a total of 50 kilometers through the mosque and its esplanades.
Despite the extent of the operation, cleaning the spaces is carried out in just five minutes after breaking the fast, allowing the faithful to resume their prayers without interruption. All these operations comply with strict health and organizational standards in order to guarantee the safety and comfort of the faithful.
This initiative illustrates the logistical magnitude of Ramadan preparations in Saudi Arabia, where the reception of pilgrims and the faithful is a priority. It also testifies to the mobilization of authorities and associations to reconcile religious fervor and rigorous organization in one of the most frequented places in the world during this period.
