Our Lord, pour upon us steadfastness [in your ways], steady our feet [against your enemies] and grant us victory over the rejecting people1
Note: When the army of the Israelites confronted Goliath’s army, a large number of them lost heart and refused to fight. The remaining believers, however, were not only wiling to fight, but were also certain that if God is on their side, then however strong the opposition may be, they were bound to win. It was at that point that they called upon the Almighty with the referred words.
Fighting for the right purpose and with the right spirit, the Qur’an tells us that God granted the group victory over the rejecters – the great armies of the Goliath.
