MUSLIMS AND JEWS OF FRANCE: LET’S MAKE NO FIGHT!
On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the Grand Orient de France lodge, the President of the Republic warned those who claim to support the Jews of France by rejecting the Muslims of France. This fair and justified warning must be heard, particularly by those who consider the presence of the extreme right in the Sunday march against anti-Semitism as a “positive historical” development.
To believe in a change on the far right is to ignore that the polite expression of its leaders does not bring real change but is part of a strategy of demonization and political calculation.
The far right has continued to draw parallels between the situation in France and that in the Middle East, by stirring up fear of a civil war, by distilling hatred and division within our society and by making people believe that Muslims in France are all potential terrorists.
The French extreme right is doing everything to import the Israeli-Palestinian conflict into France, so that the Jews of France, its old target which remains so despite misleading appearances, are torn apart with its new target, the Muslims of France.
At no time did far-right leaders utter the word “Peace” or call for a ceasefire.
Through its words and actions, the far right fuels its business daily: a “clash of civilizations” which pits “Judeo-Christian” civilization against Muslim civilization. She attempts to rehabilitate her ancestor the Vichy regime and its collaboration in the deportation of our Jewish compatriots. She forgets that it was among Muslims that the Jews found refuge when they were persecuted and expelled from Europe.
With all due respect to the anti-Semites of yesterday and today, anti-Semitism is prohibited by the founding texts of Islam. The anti-Semites of yesterday and today do not read the Koran. They continue to read Drumont and Maurras. Their DNA has not changed, nor have their references.
It is from these references that they draw their codes and expressions that they apply to Muslims today. The expression “paper Frenchman” reminds us of Maurras who thus designated Jews, Freemasons and Protestants. The concept of “Islamo – leftism” is only an update of “Judeo-Bolshevism” which served as an alibi for hatred of the Jew.
So, Muslims and Jews of France, let’s not get into the wrong fight!
