Eid-Al-Adha, “The Feast of Sacrifice”: Meaning, Purposes, Rules and Practical Questions

The CFCM announces the date of Eid El-Adha: Friday June 6, 2025

The French Council for Muslim worship (CFCM) has announced that Eid El-Adha 1446/H will be celebrated in France the Friday June 6, 2025. This celebration, one of the most important on the Muslim calendar, commemorates the sacrifice of the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and embodies the values ​​of faith, sharing and solidarity.

THE Thursday June 5Arafat Day, Eid’s Watch, is also a major spiritual moment, marked by a fast highly recommended for non-Pèlerines.

The CFCM recalls that the ritual sacrifice must be carried out only by authorized priests, in approved slaughterhouses, and in Strict compliance with food safety regulations, public health, animal protection and environmental protection. The slaughter outside these structures is prohibited by law.

Faced with the limited capacities of slaughter structures, the sacrificial act can be carried out on Three days of Eid. The sacrifice by delegation, in particular via humanitarian NGOs, is also authorized.

The Council underlines the importance of respecting the health, environmental and ethical rules linked to sacrifice, and calls on the faithful to demonstrate civility and responsibility. He also invites families to anticipate the organization of their sacrifice to avoid any logistical tension.

At a time when identity tensions weaken national cohesion, the CFCM recalls that Eid is also a moment of openness, prayer and social ties. He encourages Muslims of France to make this celebration a living testimony of fraternity and mutual respect.
