The Maghreb En Marche: a solidarity caravan en route to Gaza
At the dawn on Monday, the “Al Soumoud” caravan left avenue Mohamed V in Tunis, marking the start of an unprecedented convoy of solidarity towards Gaza. Organized by the coordination of joint action for Palestine, this mobilization brings together nearly 2,000 participants from all over the Maghreb, far beyond the Tunisian borders.
Leaving at 6 a.m., the caravan will cross several cities in the country before reaching the border post of Ras Jedir, then Libya, en route to Rafah, on the Egyptian border. Objective: to break the blockade of Gaza and to carry a clear message against the “genocide orchestrated by the Zionist occupier”, in the words of one of the coordinators, Slaheddine Masri. A press briefing, held the day before at the headquarters of the UGTT, made it possible to recall the extent of popular engagement. More than 10,000 Tunisians had volunteered, although only 2,000 could have been on board. The Tunisian convoy should join other humanitarian missions from more than 40 countries in Egypt, in unprecedented international coordination.
According to spokesperson Nabil Chennoufi, meetings are planned with other delegations in Rafah or Al-Arich between June 12 and 15, depending on the development of the field. Tunisia, on the front line of this initiative, embodies a concrete and resolved Maghreb solidarity against the headquarters of Gaza.
