The National Assembly adopts for the first time an RN text on the Franco-Algerian agreement of 1968

Unprecedented fact in the National Assembly: a text from the National Rally was adopted, calling for breaking the Franco-Algerian agreement of 1968. A symbolic decision, revealing the extreme right-wing of the French political debate. This vote, far from being trivial, risks further worsening relations between France and Algeria, already marked by growing mistrust and recurring diplomatic tensions. By giving in to the RN’s discourse, certain deputies are endorsing a logic of identity withdrawal and political provocation, to the detriment of dialogue, memory and mutual respect between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
This is a deeply worrying signal, sent to Algeria as well as to many French citizens attached to a peaceful relationship between the two countries. Such an initiative can only fuel misunderstandings and further widen the gap between two peoples linked by a painful but inseparable history.
