The representative of the Spanish State at Ceuta addresses her wishes for Ramadan

On the occasion of the beginning of Ramadan, Cristina Pérez, delegate of the Spanish government in Ceuta, sent her best wishes to the Muslim community of the enclave. In a message full of fraternity, she highlighted the exemplary of interreligious coexistence in this city.

“As a government delegate, I want to congratulate all the Ceutis faithful to this religion. We are proud that cohabitation and respect for different beliefs are a reality to Ceuta, offering an example for a world as disturbed and complex as ours ”said Ms. Pérez.

She recalled that Ramadan, ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a period of fasting, prayer and reflection, commemorating the first revelation of the Koran to the Prophet Mohammed. This sacred month, one of the five pillars of Islam, is particularly significant for the Muslim community of Ceuta which represents almost half of the population of this city.

Located on the north coast of Morocco, Ceuta is one of the two Spanish enclaves in Africa with Melilla. This autonomous city of 85,000 inhabitants is distinguished by its rich cultural and religious diversity, where Christians and Muslims (43% of the population) harmoniously coexist, making this Mediterranean city a unique example of intercultural dialogue at the gates of Europe.

The delegate concluded its message with the traditional “Ramadan Mubarak” wishes, stressing the importance of this period of spiritual growth and strengthening community ties.
