The world’s first “halal cruise” will set sail in November

This is a major first in the world of tourism: on November 29, a liner entirely designed for Muslim travelers will set sail from Port Klang, Malaysia. Named M/V Piano Land, this ten-deck ship will be able to accommodate nearly 1,760 passengers in its 880 cabins. On board, everything has been designed to respect the principles of the Muslim faith: 100% halal meals, non-alcoholic drinks, prayer rooms and indications of salat times. Even afternoon tea breaks will be halal.

The result of a partnership between Astro Ocean Cruise (Chinese company) and Hwajing Travel & Tours, the project is part of Malaysia’s ambition to become a world benchmark for Muslim-friendly tourism. M/V Piano Land will offer mini cruises between Penang, Langkawi and Port Klang, lasting two to four days. Enough to attract a clientele hitherto little represented on this market, such as Hassan Bulbul, British influencer and winner of the title of Halal Travel Influencer of the Year : “It’s incredible, I’ve never been able to take a cruise before, precisely because most of them don’t offer services adapted to Muslims. »

Beyond the religious aspects, the ship also promises wellness areas, children’s clubs and meditation workshops, combining spirituality and relaxation. This initiative is part of a broader dynamic: according to the Global Muslim Travel Index, the halal tourism market is expected to reach $300 billion by 2030. Faced with this growth, more and more players in the sector — hotels, airlines and now cruises — are adapting their offers to meet the needs of a young, connected audience eager to travel without compromising on their values.

An initiative hailed as a turning point for the travel sector: “This is a big step for the halal tourism industry. And it doesn’t exclude anyone, it just makes travel more inclusive,” emphasizes Hassan Bulbul. With this first departure, the world of cruises finally opens up to a long-forgotten public — and the sea looks more welcoming than ever.
