Tribute to Noureddine Hiahemzizou: a great Algerian artist has left us

He definitely put down his pencil, sharpened as was his eclectic talent, thanks to which he gave free rein to his inexhaustible creativity, Noureddine Hiahemzizou, 86, one of the fathers of Algerian comics, died last June in tragic circumstances.

In addition to his luminous memory, he leaves behind him an abundant work, which has fed the imagination of several generations and inspired many artists, and an Algeria in mourning.

It is with deep sadness that the Oumma team learned of the death of this great designer, illustrator, cartoonist, model maker and poster artist, a graduate of the National School of Fine Arts in Algiers, whose exalting life was dotted with creations.

The whole Oumma team would like to offer its most sincere condolences to the whole family, sorely tried, of this immense artist and precursor in his chosen field.

In 2012, at the end of a busy life during which his pencil glided easily over the paper, moving briskly from press cartoons or comic strips, of a humorous nature, to the design of posters for the Algerian cinema (in particular the legendary film “Hassan Terro” by Mohamed Lakhdar Hamina), Noureddine Hiahemzizou was awarded the Sid Ali Melouah Heritage Prize at the 7th Algiers International Comic Strip Festival.

A talented and prolific Algerian artist has left us. May he rest in peace with the Most High. Allah y Rahmo
