Tunisia: a boat from the Global Sumud flotilla struck by an explosion, the drone track evoked

One of the ships of the Global Sumud flotilla, hired to break the blockade of Gaza, was struck on Monday by an explosion at sea off the coast of Tunisia. The organization claims that a drone targeted its boat beating Portuguese pavilion, which transported its steering committee. Six people were on board, all unharmed, but the boat suffered significant damage.

A member of the flotilla filmed his ship just after the blast (see videos below), describing a massive explosion. The organization also broadcast images of a boat surveillance camera: there is a buzz, then one of the activists look up before a flash spurts and an explosion shakes the ship. The UN special rapporteur for the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, present on the port of Sidi Bou Saïd, shared the video on X. She sees it as concordant clues with a drone attack and warned that, if this was confirmed, it would also be an infringement of Tunisian sovereignty. Tunis, for its part, disputes this version and evokes an internal explosion.

The incident aroused a spontaneous rally at the port, where dozens of people have brandished Palestinian flags chanting “Free Palestine”. Supported by delegations from 44 countries, the flotilla claims that its humanitarian mission to Gaza will continue despite the threats. A press conference is planned in Tunis to detail the consequences of the attack.
