US elections 2024: CAIR-OK mobilizes the Muslim community in the face of rising Islamophobia

CAIR-OK, the Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, recently released its 2024 voting guide, a tool intended to mobilize Muslim voters in the run-up to the November general election. Faced with growing tensions related to the conflict in Gaza and the resurgence of Islamophobia, this guide seeks to strengthen the civic engagement of Muslims in Oklahoma and to promote political participation as a means of defending the rights and expression of the community.

Adam Soltani, executive director of the organization, recalled the importance of this election, described as “crucial” for the future of the local and global Muslim community. The guide provides key information about candidates for federal, state and local office, particularly in areas with large Muslim populations like Oklahoma City and Tulsa. In addition, CAIR-OK also offers meetings with candidates, allowing a direct exchange between voters and candidates on issues that concern Muslims in the region.

With a worrying rise in hate speech and a rising Islamophobic climate, CAIR-OK, which remains neutral on candidate choices, reaffirms its commitment to social justice and civil rights, encouraging an active citizen response from the community.
