Vietnam: Hanoi stands out as a new flagship destination for halal tourism
Located in northern Vietnam, the capital Hanoi intends to become a major player in world halal tourism, carried by the rise of travelers from Muslim majority like India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Egypt, Brunei and Qatar.
Faced with growing demand for travel experiences respectful of Islamic values, Hanoi develops a structured offer: Halal certified accommodation, adapted catering, accessible places of prayer, but also initiatives in favor of inclusive, ethical and culturally sensitive tourism. In 2024, more than 650,000 tourists from these countries visited the city, representing almost 15 % of international arrivals. This dynamic continued in 2025, carried by a displayed support of the Vietnamese government. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has made halal tourism a pillar of its national strategy, with Hanoi as the main showcase.
International hotels, certified restaurants, training for professionals in the sector: public and private actors are organized to structure an ecosystem in accordance with Halal standards. Objective: to capture a share of a market estimated at more than $ 300 billion by 2026. According to local authorities and experts in the sector, this positioning is also a response to a more respectful, safe and spiritually compatible travel demand, especially for Muslim families and women traveling alone. Hanoi now aims to become, in Southeast Asia, a benchmark for Muslim tourism-between hospitality, modernity and respect for convictions.
