“We are all Palestinians”: these Parisians who defy Darmanin and his bans
Despite the prefecture’s ban on the demonstration in support of the Palestinian people, hundreds of people gathered yesterday on the Place de la République in Paris. The police very quickly cut the gathering in two, one part remaining on the square, the other blocked on rue du Faubourg du Temple. The latter was then pushed and then gassed until everyone dispersed. On the Place de la République, after an hour of chanting slogans and brandishing flags, the police used a water cannon and used tear gas to disperse the crowd. Some of the motivated demonstrators returned to demonstrate peacefully once the gas was dispersed, and were then gassed again. On site, everyone is angry at the difference in treatment and repression between this demonstration and the one in support of Israel. Small groups attempted to continue the demonstration in the parallel streets, but were quickly caught by the police.
