Why Has God Created Such a Vast Unpopulated Universe?

September 12, 2003 by Admin

Question

I am in touch with many atheists and try to convince them of the existence of God by drawing their attention towards the signs hidden in the Universe, stars and planets since they don’t believe in the Qur’an.

I tell them that none of the things in this world exists without a reason.

God has created things for a reason, their is also a reason why God created earth.

He asked me that if everything has a purpose and if God created earth for a reason ,than what was the reason for the creation of such a large and huge  Universe, and billions of galaxies and so many planets (other than earth) where life doesn’t exist?

This question of the atheist got me thinking and I had to break of the conversation.

Please let me know how should I reply him since his question seems quiet reasonable and I am not getting any answer to this question in my mind.

I’ll really appreciate if you provide a solid and satisfactory answer supported  by reasoning and logic so that I can convince him.

I hope my question is clear to you and will wait for your reply

Answer

As you yourself have described, these billions of galaxies and so many planets are indeed the signs which proclaim to the world that there is Someone who is administering the affairs of this universe. As the terrestrial panoramas guide us to appreciate the greatness of God, the celestial heights also give us an insight into how Wise and Great our Lord is. The modern mind does have an idea of the sensitive movements of the celestial bodies. Looking at these in simulation, these appear to be so disorganized yet have been put on their predetermined path to move. As the Holy Qur’an said about the sun and the moon, everything is moving in its orbit. This well planned movement alludes to the supremely perfect administration of the Universe, which only the One and Alone can do.

I deny not the possibility that these bodies will ever collide but if ever this happens, it will be a well planned act of the One who disintegrated these bodies initially. It seems that with the massive expansion of all these planets and galaxies, God has laid the basic foundation of Paradise and Hell. As the previous bang is believed to have given birth to the earth, the second big bang, it appears to me, would result in the Hereafter. Everything is in the control of the Lord and these planets serve as a warning to those who may take heed.

Another fact which we must appreciate is that life, in the most beautiful form and manifestation, as man can see it, only exists on the earth. Mars and other planets have scientifically been proven to contain basic ingredients necessary for life yet these are devoid of the beauty of life as it exists on this earth ƒ¢¢â€š¬¢â‚¬ our home. The point to be noted is that, with only a minor change in the chemicals and atmosphere, God not only created as beautiful a world as our home is but also made so sensible and sane a creature as humans potentially are. This exhibits that we must not consider the creation of the Hereafter out of probability at any rate. With only a meager change in the chemical proportions, God will create a perfect world that no eye has ever beheld. From the dry, barren and hot elements, if earth can be created, why not Paradise and why not Hell?
