Answer

You write:

Zina is fornication. However, it also bears a legalistic aspect in that as a complete definition it is unlawful sexual intercourse between two people. Sex with slaves – depending on the society – was an established practice that had its legal implications. A discerning mind will appreciate that the two are not the same. In fact, one has to keep in mind that slavery and its administration was introduced early in human history thousands of years ago.

By definition, concubines are not raped. They are in a form of relationship with a particular legal status that the society recognizes but does not regard as an official marriage. Usually, the concubine is a secondary wife with fewer rights than a primary wife but this depends on the norms of the society.

I hope this helps.

God knows best.
