Daniel Cohn-Bendit on the subject of Ben Gvir: “These are hordes of fascists who want the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians. »

During an intervention on BFM TV, Daniel Cohn-Bendit accused Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich of embodying a trend that he explicitly describes as “fascist”. Refusing any mitigation, he declared that it was not simply a question of a radical “extreme right”, but of a dangerous political current carrying, according to him, a logic of hatred, violence and exclusion of the Palestinians. He affirmed that Ben Gvir and Smotrich support a policy of “ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians” and that they celebrate each year the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin, a historic figure in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. For Daniel Cohn-Bendit, these positions reflect an assumed rejection of any peaceful coexistence.

He also denounced proposals around the death penalty specifically targeting Palestinians, which he considers a total break with democratic and humanist principles. Referring to Robert Badinter’s fight against capital punishment, he called for a clear mobilization against what he describes as a trivialization of authoritarianism and political violence.
