Mathilde Panot calls for the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador

Guest of Franceinfo, the president of the La France insoumise group in the National Assembly, Mathilde Panot, called on France to take strong measures against Israel, believing that the violations of international law, the bombings against civilians and the destruction carried out in Gaza, Lebanon and the West Bank can no longer go unanswered. Referring to the situation in Lebanon, the member for Val-de-Marne denounced Israeli attacks against the country and questioned France’s desire to defend the sovereignty of an allied state. “The question that is asked is: will France go to the aid of an allied country called Lebanon? Will it defend its sovereignty and in particular the right to be able to defend itself? “, she said.

For the rebellious elected official, the sanctions envisaged against Israel must now be accompanied by concrete diplomatic measures. “In addition to sanctions, we must also send the Israeli ambassador out of French territory,” she said. Mathilde Panot also denounced the images of the Gaza solidarity flotilla intercepted by Israel as well as the consequences of Israeli strikes in Lebanon. “We saw images of torn bodies that are absolutely unbearable to watch,” she recalled.

She also underlined that “an infant was killed in the West Bank by Israeli fire” last Friday and denounced the continuation of massacres in the Gaza Strip where “deaths and killings continue”. The president of the LFI group finally accused the Israeli ambassador to France of interfering in French political life. “We have an Israeli ambassador who is simply engaging in foreign interference by saying, in the presidential elections: everything rather than Mélenchon,” she declared.

Faced with continued bombings, civilian deaths and violations denounced by numerous international organizations, Mathilde Panot believes that France must now move from condemnation to action and initiate sanctions as well as a diplomatic break with the government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
