Against the ban on the veil, non-Muslim women mobilize

A vast movement of solidarity is displayed on social networks: non-Muslim women choose to symbolically wear the veil to support Muslim women targeted by the RN’s project to ban its wearing in public spaces. Through photos and videos, they intend to denounce a measure that they consider discriminatory and an attack on individual freedom. Their gesture aims to remind us that every woman must be able to freely choose her outfit, whether she decides to wear the veil or not.
This mobilization thus goes beyond the sole religious question. For these participants, it is also about defending the principle of equality and refusing to allow a portion of citizens to be excluded from public space because of their beliefs or their appearance. On social networks, these initiatives are receiving a growing response and are giving rise to numerous messages of support. Women of different origins and faiths are showing their solidarity with Muslim women who fear seeing their clothing freedom called into question. A way of responding to stigma with a simple gesture: wearing, for the duration of a photo or video, this veil that some would like to ban.
