Obligatory alms, Zakat El Fitrdue by each Muslim family, is set this year at 9 euros per person.
This amount, calculated in accordance with religious rules, takes into account the means of the donor as well as the needs of the beneficiary.
However, there are legitimate differences on the evaluation of the amount of this alms, generally understood between 7 and 12 euros. Each faithful can pay the amount recommended by their religious authority of reference.
There Zakat El Fitr is intended for poor people. It is recommended to benefit the needy in one’s place of residence, but if necessary, it can be sent elsewhere.
Its payment generally takes place at the end of the month of Ramadanbut can nevertheless be carried out from its first day.
People who are unable to make up for missed fasting days due to permanent inability to fast (chronic illness, advanced age, etc.) may, in certain cases, be required to pay a compensation alms (fidya) for the benefit of those in need.
According to the legal opinion taken as reference by the person concerned, the amount of this alms, per day missedmay vary:
-
between the equivalent of Zakat El Fitr (either between 7 and 12 euros)
-
Or half of this amount (between 3.5 and 6 euros)
-
Or the quarter of this amount (between 2 and 3 euros)
In all cases, the CFCM recommends that everyone follow the advice that seems best suited to their situation.
The collection and distribution of Zakat El Fitr and the Fidya can be donated to a charity.
However, it is imperative to remember that this alms is exclusively intended for the poor and cannot under any circumstances be used to finance a mosque.
For the sake of transparency, mosques raising funds for their operations must clearly inform donors And keep separate cash registers.
