Outrage in Dubai: a customer wearing a niqab victim of mockery filmed by a tourist

A video that has gone viral shows a European tourist openly mocking a woman wearing a niqab in a Dubai restaurant, sparking outrage on social media.

The scene, which has accumulated more than 2.6 million views, shows a non-Muslim woman allowing herself to film a customer dressed in a burqa during her meal, laughing and making fun of her. The incident sparked a wave of protests, recalling that Emirati law strictly prohibits filming local women without their consent.

Amid the flood of outraged comments, many Emirati women shared their similar experiences, denouncing the harassment they sometimes face because of their traditional dress. “I remember complaints from veiled Emirati women who were constantly harassed because of their choice to cover their faces“, testifies one of them.

Faced with this behavior deemed disrespectful, many Internet users called on the authorities to react. Dubai police quickly responded in Arabic on X (formerly Twitter), assuring that “theThe case has been transmitted to the competent services to take the necessary measures.”
